The Arts Involvement Topic is about raising awareness of the creative process to increase quality of life as one ages. Creativity is a resource, and improving individuals’ creative acuity is possible and particularly desirable with changes that accompany increasing age.

The Arts and Cultural Alliance, while not focused specifically on aging, is a very good source to be part of.   They do a nice job of informing about arts events.  They have a newsletter called Artsbeat.   Click on the link.

Benchmark studies by author and educator Dr. Gene Cohen on creativity and aging grounded the founding of and continued advocacy at the National Center for Creative Aging. There is also increasing focus on applied creativity, creativity and community engagement, and imagination and innovation in relation to the 21st c. local and global economy.

The Involvement in the Arts Topic looks at creative engagement for personal and community vitality and includes applied creativity, creativity and the brain, creativity and lifelong learning, creativity and innovation, creativity and invention, and creativity and the New Economy.

Aging is the quintessential portrait of change. Sarasota’s position as the oldest large county in the nation, along with our wide and deep resources, positions us as the perfect incubator for accommodating change. Being creative in how we manage our future both personally and as a community will impact the quality of life for us all. Longtime resident and arts education advocate Janice Mee would say, “Let’s imagine what Creativity and Vitality can do!”
