Using the Internet

Internsen

I have heard two different arguments about how useful the internet is to seniors.  One view is that the uses are so technical and change so much that the only thing it adds is a way to stay in touch with grandchildren.   On the other hand, the Baby Boomers, who are retiring now, have used the internet for business purposes, to shop from home, to find answers to questions and ways to do many tasks and projects.

Even touch screens have simplified navigation and overcome the challeges of using keyboards. (I am not a classically trained typist, but I persist even if I have to spell check everything I write.)

We have several members who create web sites, and who understand the need to simplify the way a website looks and will design it to meet your unique usages. (See our Internet and Technology Uses  topics.  Our leaders there are very sensitive and helpful.)

Internet/Technology Uses

We assume that one way citizens can engage with their community is through the use of the internet.  This web site is an example.  Maybe it used to be that the only meaningful use of the internet was to connect to grandchildren who use Facebook, but there is so much more.  Our group helps to make it easier!

Greetings CtC Group Leaders!

I just wanted to put together a post to demonstrate how you can add a blog post to the CtCSarasota.com website.

I’ll be creating a video for you to refer back to and a PDF file as well. For now, let’s go ahead and create our post. If you need to add images or videos, you can send them to either myself or Nelly Camardo and we will make sure they get posted to your article/post.

Have fun!
Julie

Welcome Internet Uses

The Importance of the Internet: The Internet’s rate of impact on business and society has been nothing but astounding. In today’s marketplace most businesses must have a strong Internet strategy in order to survive and thrive. For an increasing number, including individuals in their 50s, 60s and beyond, the Internet presents the opportunity to generate additional income and for some, even a second or even a third career. On a personal level, today,  many electronic media, whether Cell Phones, GPS, Television, E-Mail, Web Sites and such, are enabled by the Internet. We call it the Information Highway.

CtC now has a Study Group examining potential uses of the internet as we develop community engagement. The group members will assist in getting pages set up on our new web site at www.ctcsarasota.com . Current members and leaders are Andre Kasberger, Julie Larson and our Virtual Assistant, Nelly Camardo.
